  1. This morning after I paid for my breakfast in the drive-through, I paid for the person's food who was behind me! She rode behind me, flagged me down to get out of the car (and I did, lol) and asked why? I told her about the challenge issue by Torya and she was excited & said that she would solicit her friends to do something similar! I loved how that one act will possibly affect so many others . . . I believe that at some point in life, we must realize that we have a greater purpose than what we are engaged in at the moment. Everyday I awaken with a desire to do & be better. . . And what good is it to help myself without helping others!? Are you living for YOURSELF or for your PURPOSE?

  2. I actually had several acts of kindness today. Today I went to the White House for a class tour. On the way there, I saw a homeless man playing the flute. Now normally I would walk past him without making eye contact (thats what Ive been trained to do in D.C.) But today I took a few minutes to listen and realized he was actually really good. So I gave him some money. *So often we(me)wont pay the homeless man on the street any attention and we definately wont give him any money for feer that he/she will only purchase alcohol or drugs with the money. But, today I realized it really doesnt matter how he chooses to use the money. All that really matters is I did what God has asked me to do.
I also surprised two people with cupcakes today. One was the cleaning lady at my house. Her husband passed unexpectedly last week. She was very surprised and grateful. The other person doesnt know she got a cupcake yet and I dont wanna say who it was or why because she is following this blog.

I cant wait to hear more stories!

  3. My deed was not financial. I saw a kid running to catch up to the bus this morning. So, I picked him up and took him to the next stop. It didn't cost me anything, but it saved his parents a trip to the school.

  5. I must say, I woke up this morning excited to commit to this. Thanks to Torya and Stephanie for being so adamant about making me sign up.

On the early flight from Dallas this morning I figured I'd have ample opportunity to extend a random act of kindness. At the airport now, they are so strict that they make you take everything out of your pockets to go through the scanner. The lady in front of me was obviously in a rush and forgot to grab her cell phone from the bin. I called to her but she didn't hear me. So I quickly grabbed my things, ran after her and returned her phone. If anyone following this is anything like me, I couldn't imagine a day(s) without my cell phone so I'm glad I was able to do that for someone else.

  7. I was at work today and I got a text from my bf, who told me that he would commit to Torya's challenge with me. The text read "I already did my act of kindness for the day!" I thought "Seriously? It’s morning time and I haven't even brainstormed on how I can help someone else for the day." I mean seriously, I was only on cup of coffee number one!

So I began to tell my co-workers about the challenge and how excited I was! I started doing my homework around 11 and did a few other things that I needed to get out of the way. During this time, I realized that I had done a random act of kindness. I forgot that I wrote a thank you note to a school counselor that I had shadowed last week, for my grad class. In the note, I told the counselor how wonderful I think she is and how much of an influence she has on my premature counseling career.

It's funny that sometimes our every day "chores" are random acts of kindness that we tend to over look. (Hidden little blessings from God) Maybe sometimes God wants us to just slow down and look at the bigger picture. I hope that the elementary school counselor I wrote to enjoys her appreciation note when she receives it in the mail;-)
